Raised, plus clothes and relief supplies

Over $45,000 raised, plus multiple batches of clothes and relief supplies delivered to hard-hit areas.

The problem

After the earthquake hit Nepal in April 2015, requests for rescue and relief showed up across social media.

Social posts turned into a needs mapScattered social media posts about rescue and relief needs flow through a Hadoop pipeline (Pig, Hive, HBase, Sqoop) into a map with clustered pins that NGOs used to prioritize.SOCIAL POSTSHADOOPPIG · HIVEHBASE · SQOOPNEEDS MAPNGOS PRIORITIZE

The build

Digital volunteer work from April to July 2015. Social media posts about rescue and relief needs were mined and mapped so NGOs could prioritize. The pipeline ran on a Hadoop stack: Pig, Hive, HBase and Sqoop.
